Fall Prevention in the Workplace – Check Out Our Campaign Today!
According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), workers’ compensation and medical costs associated with occupational fall incidents have been estimated at nearly $70 billion annually in the United Sates. The highest frequency of fall-related fatalities was attributed to the construction industry — the most nonfatal fall injuries continue to be associated with health services and the wholesale and retail industries. Whatever industry you’re in, it’s important to have a fall-protection program in place.
Before you begin a fall-protection program at your business, it’s critical to identify the potential fall hazards in your workplace. OSHA requires that a fall-protection program be created to educate employees on:
- Fall hazards identified on the job site and any changes that may occur
- The use of fall protection systems or alternatives for the job site
- How to erect, disassemble and maintain equipment
- The process for alerting management about damaged fall protection systems
- Available training on assigned roles in the fall protection program
To help our customers protect their employees, mitigate fall-related injuries, and avoid unnecessary medical expenses, we’ve created a Fall Prevention and Ladder Safety campaign. The campaign website contains several tools to help policyholders, including brochures, tip sheets and helpful links. These materials cover topics such as, ladder safety, lift safety and fall safety basics.
This is an important topic — not only for preventing injury and saving money, but saving lives in many cases as well. We’d encourage you to access the site frequently to utilize all the tools and tips available to you and your employees.
