Accident Fund’s WorkSafe StudentsTM initiative

Facts

  • More than a quarter million students are hurt on the job annually.
  • Tragically, approximately 70 teenagers die each year from injuries sustained while at work.
  • Nearly 80,000 working teens are injured severely enough to admit to emergency rooms across America.
  • High school and college-aged students are hurt on the job nearly twice as often as adults.
  • Students spend approximately one million hours a year recuperating from work-related injuries.
  • There are no uniform workplace safety awareness standards for America’s entry-level work force.

Students often don’t receive appropriate or adequate job safety training. With twice as many teenagers being injured on the job as adults doing the same work, preventing work-related injuries among teens is vital.

Accident Fund insurance Company of America is committed to creating awareness about the problem and providing solutions through training and educational resources for workers, parents and employers.

The WorkSafe StudentsTM initiative was established to raise awareness about teen safety and to offer training and education resources for employers, teens and their parents.

Awareness: Throughout the year Accident Fund distributes news releases, data and articles to media outlets across the country.

Resources: Accident Fund has developed safety tips for students and employers, as well as information that helps parents evaluate a child’s prospective employer.
