Because of the many different systems for classification and labeling of chemical products, it has been difficult for governments to regulate and enforce proper safety precautions related to chemical products. The Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) is a system that defines and classifies the hazards of chemical products, and communicates health and safety information on labels and material data sheets.
